    You can use Particular to emit any type of particle you want. Including animating particles, and even different particles every frame……

    Use custom particle type. You can use a comp as a particle for including animating particles. And you can precomp comps or particles into a comp at every frame and use the ‘birth’ options to sample which particles to emit and when……..

    There is a demo on Trapcodes website that shows you how to do this exact thing.

    Here’s a link to a tutorial by Roland Kahlenburg that shows you how to do it without a third-party plugin, just in case you don’t own Particular.

    I’ve experimented with getting this to work on a basic level in Particle Playground, and as long as you have the layer you want emitted in your timeline, it works just fine. Good luck.
