Selecting DVD Media – Double Layers
Using APP2
I’ve worked every which way, including Sunday.
Have 4 or 5 hours of raw footage on which I will impose media time code. The footage is 16:9.
However, even when I group slightly over an hour (75 minutes), I get the error message that the space required is more than 4.7GB, even when I select folder or ISO image I get this message. Even when I reduce quality, I still get this message. Even when I put in a double layer diskette, I get this error message.
I know for a fact that my burner (NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A) can and does burn double layers and with Ritech media.
I wonder if this version of MainConcept MPEG Video is restricted, or are there controls somewhere I don’t know about.

At this point, Premiere Pro does not support dual-layered media.

Fair enough. However, I have various chunks of raw video under 90 minutes in actual length, and yet, I still get an error message that it represents a greater amount than 4.7Gigs. This is not true, and perhaps there is a switch I’ve missed, but it just means extra work…. My work around is to play out as an AVI movie, and then encode using Canopus ProCoder Express and burning to DVD with another programme. What is annoying is that it won’t create DVD files, nor a disk image, eventhough there is ample space on the HDD.

I wish I could help with your problem but All I know is a work around. I am pretty sure that Encore DVD supports dual layer burning.

Details needed. Have you compressed the video/audio files?

The video exists as raw, native uncompressed AVI files, expressed as usual in the editing timeline. Output from workspace to the DVD Encoder. There doesn’t seem to be any ability to choose the “media length”, eg. 60,90,120. So, even if the project info media length is said to be under either the file size, or video length for a single layer 4.7 diskette, the DVD Encoder says the media is too large for a 4.6GIG diskette.

further follow-up:
I just attempted to burn the timeline to DVD using Premier Pro. The amount of video was only 71 minutes. Even when I attempted to lower the quality of the output, I still received the message that there was too much data for a 4.7G diskette.
