  • Seeking Idea for conforming 4:3 clip into 16:9 frame through effect

Posted by John Leblanc on October 15, 2009 at 12:17 am

I have a 4:3 clip that I’m looking to fill into a 16:9 frame, but I do not want to scale the clip to resize it.

I need to find a creative solution for extending the edges using existing FCP filters or tools.

The footage is of a runner who more or less occupies the center of frame consistently.

I thought of the Fox news effect — the way that they extend the edges of 4:3 material playing in their HD window by duplicating and blurring a portion of the existing sides of the 4:3 shot, thereby making it look somewhat seamless.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

YOu said it right there. Layer the same shots underneath, make them wider, or bigger, blur them.

Because THIS is impossible. Make something fill in space without getting scaling or stretching.

Mattais has a filter called smart anamorphic that does a clever differential stretch which favours the middle and stretches the edges

    Might be just the ticket
