  • Seeking guidance – How do I UNINSTALL FCS 3 for clean install?

Posted by Jim Bruce on May 6, 2010 at 1:47 am

My IMAC recently became a large paper weight (logic board blew).

Bought a new Mac Pro. Used migration asst to bring my old drive back to life via Time Machine backup.

Final Cut Pro 7 quits upon trying to open an FCP project.

Apple told me I can’t use Migration Assistant for FCS apps.

So, on their advice, I trashed all the FCS apps from the Applications folder and did a clean install of FCS.

2 hours later I have the same exact problem. Final Cut Pro quits in the same way and provides the same “Exception Type” information.

What did the Apple Support guy (who’s having dinner right now probably) forget to tell me about properly uninstalling FCS 3?

    Many thanks for any advice.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Erase the hard drive, install the OS fresh, use migration assistant only for files not apps. Install the software fresh.

You can try the FCS Remover (google it) but that’s hit or miss

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for your reply. It’s been a long day so I gave FCS Remover a shot seeing as how I didn’t have much to lose in trying.

After Remover and reinstall FCP opened just fine, so tentatively speaking it seems to have worked.

Will let you know if I have troubles down the road.

    Thanks,

    Jim
