  • secret prefs in MAC version of AE?

    hi,

i’ve got the secret prefs in the windows version by holding down shift when cycling through preferences categories, but does the mac have the same thing? holding down shift seems to do nothing. are there no hidden preferences in the mac version for clearing ram every x frames rendered?

    thanks,
    scott.

Hold down the shift key, go to AE–>Preferences–>General–>cycle thru the panes and you will see the “secret” pref. So in answer to your question: Yes, AE’s version for the Mac does have the secret pref.

Does emptying the cache every so many frames speed up a render?? If so what are the negatives of this option…everything has a negative….

    thanks

No, it slows down a render, apparently. Do a test to find out how much for your particular project.

But … it can make impossible renders possible by avoiding crashes. If your RAM fills up before your render is done, you crash. Therefore, purging is good.

This ‘secret’ is great! and works just perfect for complex comps to render ‘without’ crashing! thanx a lot you guys!

    bye Frank
