  • SDI flashing light when log and capture is opened

    Hello to all,

I am using a Panasonic AJ-SD93P deck. To save space I am capturing DVCPRO-50 footage at dv resolution. Once the edit is complete I will online to DVCPro-50 resolution. I am using a Blackmagic Decklink Extreme card and going through SDI. On the face of the deck the Video and Audio windows show that I have an SDI signal. When I open FCP, I still have an SDI signal. When I open Log and Capture, the SDI light on the front of my deck begins flashing. I am able to capture footage, however I have had a few crashes where the footage is still playing through the deck, but the footage in the log and capture window freezes. My concerns are the flashing SDI light and, of course, the crashes.

    Any thoughts?

    As always, thanks in advance!
    Peace,
    Lisha

If you have a blackburst generator hook it up to the ref in of the deck. All that flashing light is telling you is that there’s no reference. It’s is not completely necessary with SDI captures to have a blackburst generator, but it can help and definitely doesn’t hurt.
