  • Scrolling through a clip w/o moving it in the timeline…

Posted by Grant Wilber on October 11, 2009 at 1:56 am

Not sure how to go about this.

I have my timeline built and all my clips are in it. However there is a clip that I want to back up (both video and sound) a few seconds. What would the easiest way to do this be? Is there a way to back up the clip (or move forward) w/o moving everything else in the timeline?

If I have to set new in/outs and bring the new clip down how do I do it so it replaces the exact amount of time? Is there another way to do this?

also……when I set in/out and drag a clip down to my timeline…how do I drag just the sound…or just the video?

    Hey Grant
Am not exactly sure which tool it is you need as your description could mean either of them … but I’m pretty darn sure you are looking for the SLIP or SLIDE tool … just press “S” to change to the slip tool and then click and drag on the clip you want to change, as you drag the clips in and Out point change accordingly whilst the duration and placement in the sequence remain unchanged; or press “SS” to change to the slide tool and then click and drag on the clip to change its location in the timeline whilst changing the preceding clip’s out and the succeeding clip’s in point accordingly. That’s the general idea anyway, quite quick and easy to learn and use … please check your Manual for explicit details.
    Best

But it seems no one ever consults him for some reason.
