Scrolling Text in Vegas
Posted by Bobby1135 on June 12, 2007 at 4:20 pmI Have a list of about 50 names that need to scroll across the screen. The only problem is, after the first 5 names are on the screen, I need it to pause for 5 seconds, Then continue scrolling one by one..pausing after every new name. Can anyone help me with this?

June 12, 2007 at 5:23 pmEdward answered this one recently by suggesting that it be set up as as one graphics image, then use keyframes to move the text accross the screen and pause when you want. That’s how I would do it as well.

June 12, 2007 at 6:34 pmThank you, Do you have a suggestion on which graphic image to type it on. The regular text one only holds so many names, would I just have to use multiple ones to fit all the names?

June 12, 2007 at 6:52 pmI would do this Photoshop. You can also use Paint Shop Pro or any other graphics program you want.
Make the image 720 pixels wide by whatever height you need. Try 1500 pixels for the height as a start. This can always be adjusted later if necessary.
Make sure to do it on a transparent layer so that the background will key out when you bring it into Vegas. Saving it in PNG format will allow this as it has alpha channel capability.
Remember about the safe title area. Leave a minimum of a 10% border all the way around so the titles don’t get cut off when they’re displayed. When you bring the finished graphic into Vegas, use either Pan/Crop (my personal preference) or Track Motion to move the image up the screen. Adding keyframes will allow you to pause it at the desired intervals.

June 12, 2007 at 7:53 pmThanks alot for your help, the last thing im having trouble with is setting a boundary for the text when it scrolls up. I have a Heading and the Names are scrolling up through that. I want to make them dissapear right at the bottom of the Heading, I know it can be done but im getting stuck on it right now.

June 12, 2007 at 11:20 pmSet up a rectangular mask using the Pan/Crop Bezier tool. You can have it hard or soft edged with the feathering on or off.
