  • “Scroll Text” Behavior — What is “Adaptive Spacing”?

In Motion 5.4.5, among the Scroll Text behavior’s properties is “Adaptive Spacing.” This property has a dropdown with 3 values: None (default), Line, and Paragraph. Unfortunately, Apple’s Help for Motion does not describe this property.

I’m building a credit scroll in Motion to use as a Title in FCPX. At the bottom of my credit scroll is the copyright notice, and above that is the crew list. I’ve included text lines for 6 crew members:

    ROLE1
    NAME1

    ROLE 6
    NAME6

For some episodes I may have fewer than 6 crew members. If I have only 3 crew members and I delete ROLE4 through NAME6, there will be a large space between the third name and the copyright notice.

Does Adaptive Spacing compensate for this and remove the extra vertical space?

Also, I found in FCPX that when I entered roles and names of my 3 crew members, the entire “Crew” text block moved upward. As a result, it overlapped the text block above it. Is there a way to prevent this — that is, to “lock” the Y-position of the “Crew” text block?

    Thanks!
