Scopes in FCP

And if you are capturing via firewire, you can’t manipulate the brightness, contrast or anything…it comes in as a straight file.

If you are doing any serious broadcst work, I’d recomment getting an external set of scopes.

That’s the same as capturing SDI, you can’t adjust anything on the way in either as it’s a Digital file just like Firewire. If you have a TBC on your deck, then you’re good to go.

As for the scopes, they’re actually quite good except for the fact that they don’t sample anything outside the Safe Title area. I’ve been using them for some HD broadcast work here and nothing has been rejected yet for video levels.

However, I did just add Final Touch HD for both real-time color correction and fully accurate HD scopes. The cheapest good HD Scope I could find was about $11k. Final Touch HD is about $4k. So I went with that to get both the CC tool and an accurate scope.
