OK, OK – so I’m becoming spoiled from AJA. The Kona 3 finally came out, and it looks like Sonnet has a PCIe SATA card. But I want EVERYTHING (and I have to bitch about something). I would LOVE for the waveform display on the AJA VTR Xchange to be better, and be able to display real time playback while using the Kona 3 (or Kona 2, or LHe, or LH, or LS). Come on – your doing everything else. I would even pay THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS MORE PER SYSTEM if you could get this working (you know, just like a Videotek VTM-420, but right on the MAC).

Is anyone really using the waveform display on VTR Xchange ?

I just paid $4,000 for Final Touch HD from Silicon Color for this very reason. Realtime HD Scopes and non-destructive Color Correction of my FCP Timeline. Edit the entire project in FCP. Export an XML to Final Touch. CC in realtime with realtime / accurate scopes, render the CC, export an XML back to FCP, open the newly CC’d timeline with all my shots still intact.

Very cool and beats the cheapest price on a good HD scope by about $7k.

Walter, how does it feel to use a real color corrector without a real control surface (from the $4k figure I’m guessing you didn’t get one)?

I use a tablet and it’s very intuitive. Since I’ve never used a control surface, I don’t miss it.

I was thinking about one big and nice trackball but tablet sounds interesting too.
