Scary OMF from EDLManager (Overlap-EDL, Filmproject)
Hi all!
IŽm currently working as an assistant on a 16mm Project that is cut negative but as an “Overlap-Cut” – that´s what it is called in Germany. Sometimes it is also called HD-Filmedit. DonŽt know and didnŽt find the official term. ItŽs a negative cut of a sequence with handle-frames before and after the edited scenes, so that there is no jumping/moving of the film frame (near the edit) when you do the telecine of the film.
So, my workflow is as follows:
1. I have a sequence edited from dailies (lab-reels transferred to BetaSP)
2. I export the sequence as an edl (format cmx3600)
3. The negative-cutter converts the avid-edl to an “overlap-cutlist” with handles of 10 or 16 frames before and after the edited clips. And he generates a second edl for the online which reflects the original avid-sequence. But now the timecodes of this “Overlap-Online-EDL” are no longer connected to the lap-reels or BetaSP-Dailies but to the overlap-cutted negative.
4. I or the post-house convert the “Overlap-Online-EDL” to an omf with the help of the edl-manager and do the online with the telecine-transferred-overlap-negaitvecut.
BUT: There seams to be a problem with point 4. The EDLManager converts the edl in a strange way with errors in the omf that are pretty scary. Look at the pictures….

Sometimes the are dissolves where dissolves canŽt be normaly placed. Sometimes parts of the clips are missing. The source-edl looks ok and reflects the original avid-sequence-edl, but not the converted omf…
Does anybody have any ideas, what the problem could be? Is this a known bug in EDLMAnager? Any solution?
A friend imported the edl in premiereCS and there were no problems, but he could not export it as an omf…
