  • Scaling nested sequence? Basic motion attributes unavailable!

Posted by Evan Schurr on March 10, 2013 at 2:40 am

Alright so I’ve nested some generated text that I want to scale to create an effect in which we “fly through” the text, as I have footage of flying through stars.

My problem is it’s two different text objects that I’ve nested, and when I open the nested sequence in the viewer, no motion attributes are available. I’m really confused by this as I’ve googled this a million times, and the results are questions asked by people who double click the nested sequence and can’t figure out how to open it in the viewer. I didn’t see anything suggesting anyone has had this problem or that it should be. What’s going on here?

    I really don’t catch you.
If what you want to do is to manage the Nest a a single clip and so you can animate it, just click the Nest (no double-click), and hit RETURN.
The nest will show up on the viewer as a clip and you will be able to modify the motion tab parameters or add whatever filter you want.

    Sorry maybe I was unclear.

That’s what I’ve been doing. When I open the nested sequence in the viewer (not the individual clips inside the sequence) I cannot change the basic motion attributes. The keyframe controls aren’t available and neither are any of the other controls. I don’t know why. It looks like the picture I included.

    Thanks for the help!

Oh sorry maybe I wasn’t clear enough.

I know how to open the sequence as a whole in the viewer. The problem is that when I do that, the motion can’t be changed. No scaling keyframes or anything.

I goofed up the image – here’s what it looks like to me:

    Got it.
That shouldn’t be like that and obviously FC is misfunctioning.
Try “Save as..” and save your project with a different name.
If that doesn’t fix it, trash FC Preferences.

    Evan,

I am having that exact same problem working in FCP7 in an XDCAM-EX timeline that has a mixture of XDCAM-EX and AVC-Intra footage. The parameters are missing for the AVC-Intra footage.

I have repaired permissions, trashed preferences and have re-started. Still no parameter settings are possible in the Motion tab.

    Thoughts anyone?
