    Hi, I am having a scaling issue with a 2D box that is faked as a 3D box. The comp consists of 3 – 2D layers. One for the center, one for the right side (depth) and another for the bottom (depth) of the 3D box. The sides are shaded to give the 3D illusion.

    Since it looks like a 3D box the side and bottom edges are skewed to fake the 3D depth. So when I parent the center to the side and bottom and scale, they will grow larger which give the illusion that the depth of the box increases.

    What I want is to not change the depth while scaling the center layer.
    The other problem is transforming only the Y axis on the right layer becomes stretched. Same with the X axis on the bottom layer.

    I searched for any expressions or similar issues but not sure i’m using the correct search words.

    Sorry if the above description is confusing. I guess the simple question is how do you scale a skewed box on the Y or X axis only and keep the same angle of the skew?

    If I understand your issue right, you need to pre-comp your box (as it appears before you try and scale it) and then once it is pre-comped and all nested together in one comp. In the original comp you should be able to scale the pre-comp you just made without running into the z scale problems. Try that and let me know if that fixes it. Also, to make sure you maintain the quality of the original object(s), make sure you tick the “Collapse Transformation” box so that when you scale you don’t lose quality.
