Scaling Down Nested Sequences
Here’s an unexpected problem with PPro 1.51:
If I take a clip and scale it down, it looks fine. If I take that same clip, put it in a sequence at full scale and nest it in another sequence, scaling down the nested sequence is not at all the same quality.
This is most noticable if I animate the scale; from 60% to 80% over several seconds for example. Doing this with a clip look crisp and sharp. Putting a static clip in a nested sequence, and scaling the nested sequence looks rough … as though it’s not sub-pixel sampled. It’s not so noticable if the nested sequence’s scale is not animated, but is noticable if the nested sequence is animated in scale and/or the source sequence has moving video/graphics.
I can see two solutions:
1) apply the scaling animation to the original clip, but with multiple clips and effects in the source sequence this is problematic.
2) Export a video clip from the source sequence, put that in the final sequence and scale that.
Although both of these work, they both really negate the advantage of having nested sequences …. I could do either of those on a NLE without nested sequences.
Does anyone know of a third party plugin that might provide professional quality on scaling of nested sequences? Or another way to get more quality when scaling nested sequences?
Thanks!
