  • Scaling a Mask?

Posted by Gabbie Dolphin on February 15, 2010 at 4:20 am

I have what I thought was a simple task to do in AfterEffects that is completely stumping me. I masked some footage and then was given a higher res version of the same footage. I need to apply the masks to the new footage and scale them up to match. I can’t figure out how to scale all the mask keyframes at once. To my understanding I should be able to select the mask then go to Layer>Mask and Shape Path>Free Transform Points but it only scales the current keyframe. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Masks can not be scaled globally,
    one way is…
    – Copy your mask to a same sized Solid
now use that solid as an Alpha matte on top of your footage
try if you can scale the new Solid (mask will scale with it)

    another way is…
    – check

haven’t tested it yet but it looks like it does the job.

… or scale up the masked lower-res footage, and use that as an alpha matte for the new footage.

Sounds like a job for a good script. 🙂
