  • Scaling a comp with the write-on effect

Posted by Raul Bastos on March 24, 2011 at 1:16 pm

    Hi guys,
I´ve got a DNA structure that I animated using the write-on effect. Fine until then.
Then I pre-comped it because I wanna scale and move this DNA, but when I rasterize it to keep vector quality, the write-on path doesnt follow the layer…=/

Is there any workaround to this?
    Thanks in advance.

Write-on is not a vector effect. To scale up the DNA (write-on effect) without losing resolution, you copy the keyframes for Write-on’s Brush Position. Then you create a mask (any mask path will do, even a single point because all we need is to use the mask as a container).

Now, select the Path property of the mask and paste the Brush Position keyframes. Open the layer’s Layer Panel and select all the mask vertices and hit CTRL+T to create a transform box for the mask shape. Scale up the mask to suit your needs.

WHen you’re done, copy the mask path and paste it into write-on’s Brush Position property.

    Kinda long-winded but it works!
