    Hello–

First of all I apologize for asking what I assume is a very rudimentary question, but for the life of me, and after many google searches, I cannot find out how to save or export a text document from CS4 to a legacy format. I see several walkthroughs that say export >> illustrator legacy should work, but that is not one of my options listed in export.

My ultimate goal is to import a spline into cinema 4 d.

    Thanks,
    Matt

I could be mistaken, as I’m on CS2. But, I think you just File/Save As, then there will be a drop-down where you can select an earlier version.

Go to: file>save as, leave the format as illustrator. The next window will prompt you for the version, you MUST select illustrator 8 for cinema 4d, no other version newer or older will work. You also need to delete any guides you might have in your document or c4d will interpret them as extra splines.
