May 2, 2007 at 6:22 pm[JeremyG] “I doubt it, they might write the drivers, but I bet they don’t make them.”
I’ll take that bet.
They make them. They make everything BUT the hard drives. They make the eSATA cards and they make their own PCIexpress cards. This was a company that designed products for other companies to sell.

I think so, but I am not sure the Caldigit 8 drive array is readily available either.

Okay, I’ll take your word for it.

May 3, 2007 at 7:03 pmI’m a big fan of Highpoint Technologies. The cards can do RAID5. They also use multilane connectors instead of port multipliers. That means you can use any external enclosure with it.

Now, The big question. A callout to Walter, Shane, Bob and the other true daily testers of these products. What is the choice today. I understand that this could change next week and I will not hold anyone liable.”I don’t have an answer for that yet Bill. I was ready to purchase a new Fibre Channel solution, but am talking to a new SATA company right now about testing out a solution very similar to CalDigit’s S2VR HD. I should know by next week whether or not we’ll get the units in for testing.
In the meantime, I’m really not sure what to tell you. We’re still running the LaCie S2S units and they are working ok, but are slower than I would like so they’re going to be replaced. We have so much work coming up that we need a LOT of storage very shortly and I need to make the right decision as we’ve had too many problems of recent past.
