I read in Post Magazine that the filmmakers in Sin City used Sapphire Plug-ins to color correct the footage to that Black and White soft look the movie is so known for. Any suggestions on how to do this. We shot on D-9.

Well based on the list of Sapphire Plugs:

As a general guess, I’d say ‘monochrome’ then ‘soft focus’. However, I would think it would be done with basic color correction to obviously pull the color out, then get the levels the way you want. As far as the soft look, in AE do the ol’ copy the layer, blur the top copy and drop it’s opacity to taste. Also as an alternative, set the top copy to Screen transfer mode instead of Normal.
