Sanyo Xacti 1010 MP4 AVCHD files, problem and solution.
Normally if I use the search function here and find a solution to a problem, I go on about my way, but the solution to this was sort of buried in a thread from last January and I thought it might be beneficial for someone in the future if I posted it fresh with the model in the title.
So I received a bunch of .mp4 files that were reading as AVCHD files but would crash Vegas after you drop in more than 30 or so into the timeline and also would crash various media players I tried to view them in. They were recorded with a Sanyo Xacti HD1010 camcorder. The end result of the project needs to be DVD, so I really just needed standard definition 16:9 files to edit with. People in the previous thread had said they could find a multitude of programs that would convert “normal” AVCHD files but couldn’t touch these weird AVCHD mp4’s. John recommended a program called Super(c) which I’ve seen mentioned here before.
This program did the trick. It’ll recompress from just about anything to just about anything. The only problem I had with it is that there was an option to Deinterlace to progressive that was checked on and greyed out, so the DV format 720×480 AVI’s I made were progressive, but that’s hardly a big deal. Anyway, if it’s of use to anyone else, here’s the url: https://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
The GUI and their website are both kind of an eyesore, but it really saved my butt.
