  • Running Final Cut Pro HD on an External Hard Drive

Posted by Sirtf (ngcsu) on December 29, 2006 at 3:51 pm

I am wanting to use Final Cut HD on a Mac Book but the hard drive is not large enough to store the software. I was thinking to buy an external hard drive to run the software from and store the media.

My question is: Will Final Cut HD run from an external hard drive?

If not, what are some possible solutions since the software will not fit on my Mac Book.

    Thanks for the help.

Are you talking about Final Cut Pro? FCP is not supported for use with this computer, though it may work.

The applications must be installed on the system drive. The ancillary application support media, like loops and Motion content, can be installed on an external drive.

    All the best,

    Tom

Your first problem is that Final Cut Pro HD will not run on any intel mac you must have FCP 5.1 to use it on the intell macs.

Your second problem is that the graphics card on the Macbook is not supported by FCP 5.1 you will need a Macbook Pro.

Your third problem is that any version of FCP needs to bu installed on the system drive.
