    Hi everyone,

I’ve just installed the triall version of Avid’s Media Composer 5 on my MacBook to get acquainted again with the Avid interface. Unfortunately it tells me that “You do not have the minimum physical memory needed to run the application”. Click on “Quit”…

Is there a little tweak perhaps that I can apply so I can run the application anyway on my MacBook with 1 Gb of physical RAM? Or perhaps an older version that does work, just to practice again after so many years of FCP editing.

    Thanks!

Get more RAM. Older versions aren’t available.

    I thought this too…however…

If you buy v5, your are entitled to older versions – in fact, if you pay to have a dongle for v5, it will run older versions.

Best bet is to contact Avid directly (or a reseller), they do have older versions available, but only for paying customers.

All that being said, it’s been a very long while since 1GB of RAM was enough to run Media Composer, and a MacBook hasn’t ever been qualified for MC – only the MacBook Pros. Not enough horsepower or as you are encountering…memory.
