  • Rotating Sweep Along a path

    Hi All,
Im trying to create a motion trail for a simple rectangle using a Sweep and a tracer.. and it works fine as long as the rectangle keep its rotation static..

if i get it to rotate along it’s path, i cant get the sweep to match its rotation.. i played with rails.. but i couldn’t figure it out ..

    Any suggestions?

the sweep locks it – if you can’t use a null to move along the spline then rotate the rectangle in that (my quick test didn’t look promising but I didn’t have much time) then you might need to prebuild the shape you want then reveal it with a boole (or texture alpha or something)

Thank you a lot i will test that.. in theory using a null should work fine..

Also there is that flickering that show up every time i unchecked parallel movements!

Hi, you should definitely revisit rails, they really help. Basically you duplicate your spline and offset it, like a railway track, that then helps with orientation along your original spline.

    Here’s a great example of that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yXE7qgDJT0

The flicker appears due to the tracer spline settings.
Intermediate points set to adaptive with 5 degree angle solves this.

Here’s the updated file with spline rail included.

    Hope it helps

    I can’t thank you enough!
I also made the rectangle editable so i can have more control over it’s trace rotation!

    Thanks again ^_^
