Rotating AVI File 90 degrees
Hello, I need assistance in trying to undo what an engineer did.
An engineer gave me an AVI that he took onsite with a digital camera (NOT a camera with tape)when he downloaded the file into his computer he noticed afterwards (he got rid of the original file) that the AVI file was turned sideways 90 degrees. You basically have to view this file with your head tilted to the side (if one is comfortable with that solution) or turn your monitor on its side. I cannot locate instructions on how to rotate this video using Premiere. I am sure there is a way…but I cannot find it. If not using Premiere, could someone please help me find a quick solution? Use the rotation tool of the motion filter.

You’re not saying what version of Premiere, if you are using Pro apply Camera View under the Transform effects, then you can use the roll effect to rotate the view, be aware that there will be spaces on either end, you can use the zoom effect to compensate for part of it.

If you know avi file dimensions in pixels (for example width 1280 height 1024) you can open new custom size project with width 1024 height 1280 and import the AVI-file to timeline. Then use Effect Controls Motion > rotation 90 degrees or -90 degrees depending orientation. Then export new movie.
If you don’t know the size then import the AVI to any project and in project window you can find the pixel size of the file.
