    Hi,

I need some help with After Effects. I need to have a piece of video…about a minute of a talking head clip…scroll off the screen to the left while a photoshop image rolls on immediately following the video. How do I go about doing this with ease in After Effects?

    Thanks,
    Anthony

I’d do this with two compositions. In the first one, set the size of the comp to be the width of your video layer plus the width of your photoshop still. Then drop in the video and still and use position to place them alongside each other. I’ll refer to this comp as ‘Side-by-side’

Now create a second composition and make is the default size for your final video output. For PAL that would be 720×576.

Bring ‘Side-by-side’ into this new comp and press ‘P’ to reveal the Position properties. Move ‘Side-by-side’ until your can just see the video layer. With the Position properties, you’ll see a little stopwatch icon. Move the timeline position until you want your change to begin. Now click on that little stopwatch. After Effects sets a keyframe, a little tick appears in the checkbox next to the stopwatch. Move the timeline again to where you want your animation to finish. You’ll notice the tick has disappeared. Click on that checkbox to add a tick and then move ‘Side-by-side’ until the photoshop layer is visible.

Tada! Now this is the most basic way to do this. You could also play around with the Motion Blur settings, consider changing the Anchor values instead of the Position ones etc…

Great! Thanks for the quick and comprehensive reply. My only question is…you said move the side-by-side layer until you can just see the video layer. I am taking that to mean move the side-by-side layer so that I can only see the video layer on the screen. Am I right in thinking to do that?

    Thanks

    Yes exactly. Good luck.
