    Greetings,

I seem to be having a problem with the Rode NTG-2 mic. It sounds good when phantom powered, but when I use the internal AA battery I get a nasty, static sound (in addition to the audio). I’ve tested two of these mics with different recorders, inputs, cables, batteries. They both have the same issue. Am I missing something or do I just have two bad, brand new mics?

    Thanks,

    DCJ

Are you sure that the external phantom power is OFF when using the internal phantom power?

    Peace,

    Bob

After further testing, it seems that if I switch from phantom power to mic (turning phantom power off) I get that noise. However, it does fade away after about 2 minutes. As long as I don’t switch back and forth between the two it’s fine.

Hi David. Just curious, what audio recorder are you using with the NTG-2? Thanks!

I’m using the Sound Devices 633. However, I got the mic to use as an on-camera mic with the Blackmagic 4K camera.
