March 29, 2007 at 4:11 pmI went with a pelican 1560 (with wheels) just over airline carry-on but I plan to carry it on. I use this full time, won’t even think of going back to a softcase.
In in I have cut out foam for Camera, Firestore, (2) Extra camera batterys, (1) extra firestore battery, (2) Wireless Mic systems, Big catch all for cables and such. The only thing is the external mic cannot be attached to the camera so I have to put it on before I use it. Protect and price is great,

March 29, 2007 at 4:57 pmI got a Pelican 1520. It’s very lightweight and holds the following:
P2 Camera
3 Batteries
Battery Charger & Cord
P2 Card Store
2 P2 Cards
Misc Cables
External MicI think Pelican makes a zippered top for the case which will hold a few more odd and ends. It’s pretty light with what I have in it which makes it noce to carry.
It WILL fit in the airline overhead compartments which is a huge bonus since I refuse to check the camera. You may be missing lights and other gear but you can still shoot if you have to.
Good luck!

March 29, 2007 at 9:55 pmWhenever I have a real concern about audio I use a shotgun mic on a pole or Lav mics. For run and gun I use the Pan external mic. One thing to note – the builtin mic is always on (except for DV25) if you use channel 1 or 2 with an external mic the builtin goes to channels 3 and 4 so it is a good backup. If you need to capture real dialog the builtins probably won’t cut it.

March 30, 2007 at 6:18 amI’m pretty sure that DVCPro50 gives you 4 channels of audio also.

April 1, 2007 at 3:58 amYep. And when recording to the cards, you can also get DV and DVCPRO25 to record all four channels.
