rip web video for FCP w/ LiveType graphics
I’ve volunteered to edit a piece for a Burma non-profit organization. Because of the media blackout imposed by the Myanmar dictatorship, most of the footage is only available online as .flv (like YouTube).
I’ve tried SnapxPro, Zamzar and Tubesock (and others) with differing results, but when I get the clip into FCP4 as a .mov or DV(PAL), I lose the clip audio. It seems to be caused by the addition of my LiveType graphics, for reasons I do not comprehend.
The conversion, resizing and import/export of the clips seems very time consumptive as well. So, my question is… what am I doing wrong? What is the recommended process for ripping from the web (.flv) for FCP with LiveType graphics?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It really has nothing to do with LiveType graphics, there is simply a bug that makes the Apple OS associate certain Flash files with Livetype instead of with the Flash Player. That much I know. Try forcing the file to open in Flash Player and it should play.
As far as making Flash into a file that you can edit in FCP, I haven’t a clue.

Goggle “iShowU” It is a screen saver – movie making software that is not to pricey.
I used it last christmas to do the same thing you are doing.. No problems,, And it will do it all in HD. Capture those Flash movies as HD and then drag them into a SD timeline and they will look great on a TV screen. I was totally amazed how quarter sized YouTube flash movies could look so good after editing and burning to a DVD.

I once did a job at an ad agency which was working in Flash, they were able to export as a movie which I could then edit in FCP. We had zero technical glitches. Believe you can export to any codec. As I recall I did the job in 8 bit, it ended up on a DVD and looked great.
If you do it this way, Live Type will not be an issue.

Try Perian. It lets QT open flv and other files. https://perian.org/
If you open the flv in QT with Perian you can then export it as any kind of QT file.John
