  • RGB 4:4:4 ingest…turning into YUV in frambuffer???

Posted by Marc Bostrøm on January 9, 2009 at 9:40 pm

    Hi,

We are trying to ingest from an Arri D-21 with dual-link 4:4:4 RGB 1920×1080 @ 25 frames pr second.
Ingest app. is the AJA-vtr Xchange. ( Compression: AJA 10-bit RGB codec + Source 1080i25 10bit)

However when looking in the AJA ControlPanel it says YUV in the framebuffer. Should it not be RGB !?

We are using the latest drivers and software. ( 6.02 ant 4.0 for VTR xchange)
Machine is the latest 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 4GB ram connected to a Caldigit HDone 8TB
    OSX 10.5.4 – QT 7.5

    What’s wrong??

    [Marc Bostrom] “What’s wrong??”

    Not sure Marc

I had an issue with the D20 not outputting RGB when it said it was, but I am not sure what you issue is.

    I am looking into it.

    Duh….

it says YUV because you are trying to capture using the single link setting.
That type of capture requires that you use the dual link set up that is marked as DL 444 RGB in the “source” window in VTR exchange.

However I am not sure there is a default 25fps 4:4:4 setting

    Thanks for your reply Gary,

“That type of capture requires that you use the dual link set up that is marked as DL 444 RGB in the “source” window in VTR exchange.”

I can not find any “DL 444 RGB” marked settings. Is this exactly what it should say?
If there isn’t a 25fps 4:4:4 default setting, can I somehow make one?

I understand that this should be a single link setting. But when pulling one of the SDI channels from the board we loose the image in VTR xchange. I can therefor assume that we are working in 4:4:4, right?

    The D-21 is running HD Mode – dual link HD-SDI (SMPTE 372M):1920 x 1080 4:4:4 RGB 10 bit@25PsF

The control panel is blue on input -> framebuffer (YUV) -> output

When trying to use the 1080p25 setting I loose the image in VTR Xchange
Trying one of the 2k settings (which puts the Framebuffer into RGB) can not be used because:
1- there is no 25 fps
2- wrong frame size compared to input.

    Any ideas?

Last time we did this direct in FCP also.

Created a new setup to record 444 RGB LOG 25P and captured direct to FCP. Worked fine.

    HI Simon..

Thanks… I was hoping to do this in VTRxchange… But as a solution I could use FCP if this solves my
    RGB (source)->YUV (Framebuffer)->RGB (Compressor) thing…

Did you notice if the framebuffer stayed RGB?

    Hi Marc
VTR Exchange most work fine. Check AJA Pref Panel: Inputs must be “Dual Link”. Then VTR Exchange: Compressor “AJA 10-bit RGB”, Source “1080i25 10 bit” (1080p25 may be will work, but this is not important – F-21 will provide You Progressive source). Kona Pref Panel must still show for You “YUV-10b” mode, but when You will press “Capture” or etc Panel must switch to “RGB 10b” immediately . . .

    best regards

    Hi Ruslan!

Thanks so much… Your totally right! I saw the change today… Immediately after pushing capture it switch to RGB.

Thanks to all for your inputs!
