A few months ago, Jerry Hofmann wrote a great story in CreativeCow magazine about what OS works best with different versions of FCP.

I’m using FCP 3.0.4, so, as per Jerry’s suggestion, I reverted to OSX.2.8. (He actually said that the absolute best way to run FCP 3 was with OS9, but I wasn’t willing to go that far)

As you might imagine, I’m having many general issues with incompatible files, software that won’t work right and websites that just don’t seem to communicate with my antiquated (3 year old) OS.

Should I just bite the bullet, update my system to the most recent OS and buy FCP 6?

I’m using a g4 powerPC with dual processors and 1gb ram. I don’t use FCP for many of its advanced features such as HD. Will my “old” computer be able to handle the new software, or should I stick with FCP 3, since it really does just about everything I need for it to do?

Thanks for any input and advice.
