Reverse Vertical Sync on TV Simulator
Posted by Romano Vargas on December 27, 2018 at 9:29 amI would like to make a sort of “screen roll” transition from one clip to the next, having the first clip slowly start to roll and then fade into the next clip while still rolling before slowly stopping. I’m using the TV Simulator effect to create the “roll”, but it only seems to go one direction (top to bottom) when setting the “Vertical Sync” bar from 1.0000 to 0.0000. Is there any way to reverse the direction of the Vertical Sync? Should I be using a different effect? Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you!

Hi Romano, here’s a daft idea, can you set to -1.0000, if you can, will that do it? Or is there a Direction Control?

December 27, 2018 at 11:19 pmYou could create the text you want, then render the video import the video back into the project when you put it on the timeline right click on it and select reverse.

“I’ve tried to do that, but sadly it seems it sets no lower than 0.0000. There doesn’t seem to be any option to change the direction either. ????

Ah I’ve thought of that, but the media I am trying to do this effect on is a video clip and can’t be reversed as I need it to play the right way while still rolling in the opposite direction.

December 28, 2018 at 4:49 amyou could try reversing the clip before rendering the file then when you reverse the render the clip will be going the right way.

December 28, 2018 at 5:48 amI tried that just now, but it seems to come out weird because of some keyframing I also have with it. It’s kind of confusing to tweak the keyframes when having to work backwards like this. ???? I’m trying to make it a slow start/stop from the roll but when flipping around the keyframes and putting it in reverse it doesn’t seem to come out the way I want it to?

December 28, 2018 at 6:17 amHmm…?? I’m starting over Romano using your AIM rather than the PROCESS of the TV Sync FX Tool . . . .

VegasPro has plenty of Transitions and Track Motion options. We also have the option with Transitiopns to Insert a Transition Velocity Envelope – these are really neat! Have you explored these or not? I’m thinking you really need to SEPARATE out the TV SYNC from the ROLLING of the Video Frame, which may be attainable from one of the solutions I suggest. What do you think?

December 28, 2018 at 6:24 amAh silly me! I regularly forget that there are Transitions to use rather than FX, thank you! Those would definitely work better, which transition would you recommend I use for this desired effect?

Romano, here yah go. I’ve used an EventA and EventB:
EventA:
EventB:
Using PUSH Transition this is what it looks like in Preview:
On the Timeline:
And using the Transition Progress Envelope:
NB: Romano, you NEED to apply PUSH to BOTH Events AND apply the PUSH OFF Control:
I haven’t yet figured/wrangled the FADES you want, but you’ve got enough to carry on with – yeah? ????

December 28, 2018 at 8:13 amThis is awesome, thank you! Will this create like a sort of “continuous rolling” effect? I’m on VEGAS 14, so it looks a little different for me (but I do get what’s going on in the photos), but I need it to “roll” over and over for about a second before slowing down. If not, is there possibly any way to do that using the transition progress/some other method?
Also, is there a way to motion blur the transition as well?
I can’t thank you enough for all this help, thank you so much!
