reverse telecine super 16 interlace issues
hi –
i am trying to reverse telecine super 16 footage. none of the options i have tried resulted in a interlace-free file. i have a 24fps sequence, 720 x 486. also tried a 29.97 one. i have reverse telecined both from cinema tools and from final cut.
i understand that the a frame is where the cursor has to be on (or in front of it, to be exact) when you click “reverse telecine.” the a-frame is supposed to be the one the telecine place punches into the film. it is also supposed to be the second of the two consecutive interlaced frames after three consecutive clean frames, of the original footage. in neither of my telecine footages (one from technicolor, the other from match frame) this is the case. am i operating under wrong assumptions? is it that second interlaced frame or the one the telecine place punches into my film?
but, i have tried both. now fcp doesn’t let me put in any settings into my reverse telecine, whereas cinema tools does. i don’t know whether my footage was telecined with one field or two fields, and which is the dominant one. a call to the telecine place did not yield that answer.
the latest i got is three clean frames and one interlaced, when reversing via fcp, starting from what i thought to be the a-frame – the second interlaced one.
i feel like i’m in vegas. any hints would be appreciated.
thanks!
