Reverse Telecine in Cinema Tools – pixel ratio problem
I’ve got another one for you guys….
We are reversing 29.97 footage to 24 and noticed something very alarming. If we bring up FCP’s item properties on a clip before the reverse telecine process, it shows 1280 x 1080 – our resolution from the AJ-HDX900 Panasonic camera. Once we do the reversing process (2:3:2:3 pulldown), we have noticed our FCP items properties continue to say 1280 x 1080, but if you go into your drive and source the QT clip within the media folder, the quicktime item properties now show 540 x 640. The image does not look like it’s lost resolution lines within FCP. Why is there this discrepancy? Is Final Cut not actually reading the new clip’s info and just copying and pasting the original 29.97 properties within the bin, therefore misleading us to think our clip is still full resolution? Are we actually losing lines of resolution here? This would be very, very, very terrible, if that’s the case. Please let me know as soon as anyone knows!!!!

QT can’t handle the non square pictures of the source material, so it will report a different number of pixels. I can say you’ve lost nothing, but those redunant fields.
