    Good afternoon,
Attempting to give AE Flares a little more ‘organic’ feel by having them interact with the my footage.
For instance a tracking shot through trees I would like to create a flare effect behind the branches the is covered and revealed as the camera moves?

    All thoughts most appreciated.

    Best,

    J

If your project has a a little extra cash in the budget you might have a look at Knoll Light Factory. KNF has the ability the set obscuration layers, which provides the functionality you’re looking for. You could download the demo to see if it’s worth the money.

Thanks for posting Gary……..Knoll not quite in the budget.
Spent some more time with the tutorial mentioned above and was able to get most of the way there exept we can’t for the life of us get the flare brightness to actual ‘0’. The lowest brightness when appearing behind an object is 7%. Close but no cigar…….
    Any thoughts?

Howzabout adding an instance of either Levels or Alpha Levels (depending on whether you want to affect the RGB or Alpha channel) to tweak the brightness.
