Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Revealing a T-Shirt with Masks

Okay my bad  let me just try and reiterate what I was trying to say before. Okay so I set up my camera on a tripod and had my actor acted as if he waslifting his arms up and examining basically imaginary clothing. Now the first take of this was done with him wearing a red shirt as seen in the photos I included. The second time I had him stand in the exact same sopt with the tripod not moved at all doing the same exact movements but this time wearing a camo jacket. Then what I did was I put both of footage over each other in after effects. The camo jacket footage was placed on the top and the red T-shirt footage  was placed on the bottom. I then  put a mask around the camo jacket and then match this up with the movements from the red T-shirt layer. I then added a second mask to the camo jacket and set it to subtract and animated it to reveal the camo jacket from the sleeves. After that what we have is a person standing there with a red T-shirt on lifting his arms up and as he does so a camo jacket is  animated onto him. Now what I’m trying to do is essentially we just have to layers overtop each other at some point I want to cut both of those layers and make them appear as if they’re all part of the camo jacket footage I’m trying to transition one video clip I’ve made  at some point and attach it to another part of another video clip and basically do this without the viewer noticing that I’ve done this I want them to think that it’s all one video clip and that it was all one take and do this smoothly lol

if you are wanting to reveal the second shirt in a more subtle way, i’d reshoot it in such a way that instead of holding his arms wide out , when you want the transition he brings his arms up in front of himself as if he were removing a jumper.

His arms would then provide you with a natural wipe which you could use to follow with a mask revealing the second outfit.

No matter what you do with your current shot, it will be really difficult to make a self revealing shirt look natural when the guy is stood with his arms wide open. Your audience already know that clothing doesnt do that, or that people rarely stand around like that, so the disbelief is already at work in their minds.

    just my 2p worth.
