  • REVAMPING THE AUDIO…BEST WAY TO HOLD SYNC?

Hi guys, I’m revamping the audio end of my systems (6 years is just too long) and a few issues have arisen. The new audio system consists of the following elements: AJA Io, MOTU 2408, digital timepiece, midi timepieceAV, MCU controller, Mackie d8b, DA-98, ADAT, Beta, DV deck (DSR-80), black burst generator, G5 dual, pci 424. The midi side of things is working great. The MCU controller is a huge upgrade just in ease-of-mixing. But where I’m a little lost is in the word clock end of things. What should be the source? And what should slave? Should I use my black burst generator to be the wc source or the word clock out from the AJA Io? The midi timepieceAV is an option, but the the digital timepiece is the best piece of equipment to get all the different sync sources together, in theory anyway.. If you were in my shoes: What’s the best way to maintain audio sync through all of this?

The majority of the work is using the following path: Beta -> d8b mixer ->lightpipe into AJA Io. But I like the flexibility of using the 2408 for spitting out an 8-track split into the DA-98. I also do some music sessions from time to time, which is why I have so much audio overkill.

    Thanks

I would use the blackburst to feed the Beta, AJA, DSR 80, Da-98, midi timepiece AV and digital Timepiece. Then take the word clock from the digital timepiece to the d8b, 2408, DA-98, Adat etc. That way the blackburst is the master sync.
