  • retain workspace settings when saving PNG files in AI

I create a workspace in AI for 512 x 256 pixels, paste in a logo, it may be any size, square, oval, or maybe just text.

I then try to save this as a .png file….

I go to export, drop down to png, name the file, select transpatent background, save it,

it now shows the logo in the little view box, but the workspace settings are not retained, it crops (squares off) the transparency field to the size of the logo, which may be 256 high or may be 512 wide.

How do I retain the original settings for the transparency of 512 x 256.

I am putting these png files into a CG8 which is a video hardware piece and the CG8 is stretching or squishing the file into its idea of 2:1 and its getting squished.

Ok…it looks like I can do this in Photoshop.

I dont know why AI crops the transparent parts of a png, but Photoshop works well.

    Sorry for the bother.

In Illustrator if you make crop marks you should be able to save for web as you want.
