Restrict Color Fill to area
I have got expressions in place to take color from a style guide and then switch to a color picker for custom needs outside the guide, but I’ve run into an issue. I have a top text layer color branded and a subtext layer that stays black. These text layers need to be reused throughout, but the color of the branded layer may need to change to fit in the scene. However, if I set this up so the text auto updates throughout the video per custom info, then color will also update in all of them bc that color is being shifted inside the comp. I would like to link the color to the outside comp layer, so I can control the color from the scene it is in (instead of inside the text comp), but if I apply a fill, it colors the whole comp so the bottom text layer isn’t black. If you apply a mask it fills the whole mask as a solid, rather than restricting the region of the fill to the masked text, leaving the other text unaffected.
So ultimately that is my question: Is there a way, without adding layers, to apply a color fill to only part of a composition from outside the comp? My guess it probably not, but figured it was worth asking.
