I’m hoping for an easy cure for a complicated problem.

I use a Sony DCR-DVD408 camcorder. I have always used a single sided 1.4 GB +RW. I had one double sided, (2.8 GB.) I formatted side one for 16:9 letterbox. I filmed until the disc was full. All other single sided imported to Sony Vegas 8.0 platinum – no problem. The double sided had NO video present. VOB file was 32K. Sony Vegas could import nothing.

I used an ISO program and searched for hidden/missing files. This returned 3 sfk’s and two large vob’s. The 2 vob’s contained all the footage. I changed the type to mpg and they both show perfect 16:9 in standard video players.

When I load them into Vegas Platinum 8.0 they become 4:3 with elongated image.
I rendered portions and they remained 4:3. I tried loading with sfk files in same folder and does not seem to work.

Am I missing something basic in Vegas. Is there an ‘easy’ way to command/alter these two files to letterbox for editing?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried setting your project settings to NTSC DV Widescreen?

Thank you Danny Hays for showing me the simple way! Prior to this problem the images automatically went to widescreen…. I never had to change.

Many, many thanks for restoring my sanity!
