I’m no hardware guy, running a 2.26, most recent build of the mac pro.
    I’d like to use a GTX285 + GT120..

you mentioned the 285 using 2 of 2 power connectors, what affect could this have, other then using more power/heat?

    Thanks!

Good news! Macrumors has uncovered GeForce GTX 480 drivers. This means 480 CUDA cores vs. the 240 cores the GTX 285 and Quadro 4800 with 192 cores.

As it seems, the GTX 480 will have 1,5GB ram, just like the Quadro.

Let’s wait and see if Apple will release a Mac Pro any time soon. Getting my hopes up..

Did you notice how much power the 480 consumes? Compare to the 4800!

Nope, I didn’t. But looking at it now, I’m thinking.. wow.. That’s quite a bit. But it’s still an interesting path to ‘get there’.

Power draw indeed! It’s silly how hard it is to find exact specs for Mac Pro power supplies. Question is, can the following kits be run on the following machines?

    Kit 1:
    GT120
    GTX285
    BM Decklink HD
    RAID controller
    4 HDs

    Kit 2:
    GT120
    GTX480 (if it’s real)
    BM Decklink HD
    RAID controller
    4 HDs

    And our possible computers are:

    Early 2008 Mac Pro

    Early 2009 Mac Pro

Late 2010 Mac Pro (I’m guessing/hoping they release one in a few months).

You can run Kit 1 on a 2008 Mac Pro as long as it’s the 800 Mhz version, but I don’t think anyone knows for sure if the 2008 will work with Resolve yet.

    hey Peter

i think i’m getting to the party a bit late here. but another storage option i would like you guys to test is Ethernet-based SAN. i have multiple clients with Small-Tree based ethernet SAN systems and a few of them are interested in adding a Resolve system.

for the first system that i would be adding Resolve to, we would be looking to read the source media off the ethernet SAN, while then writing the new renders to an internal 2 drive RAID-0 in the Mac Pro. that’s how we have our current Color system set up and it works great.

thanks. let me know if you need any more details on our SAN setup.

really REALLY looking forward to this release.

You have any problems with the RAID-0? What drives do you use? I’ve been using Hitachi lately.

    hI,
    Question To Mr Laney.
I saw your link to cubix. But is OSX able to run more than 1 gpu for computation ?
