Hi. I’m wondering if a GTX 580 Classified owner on here can relieve my concern. I’m a new Resolve lite 9.1.4 user with a single GTX 580 Classified 3gb card on a i7 3.5ghz hackintosh with 32gb Ram.

But when I first playback a lightly graded 1080 23.976p ProRes LT dslr clip, the playback frame-rate in the color page fluctuates wildy 15-31fps (but with full green bar). Then when I stop and playback again, it plays with stability 24fps full green bar. This is relatively consistent repeatable phenomena and happens on and off especially when I return to Resolve after some idle time. And when I check the optimized display mode for playback box in project settings (which I’ve heard is recommended for lower performance single GPU systems), I do get more stability but the issue can sometimes appear. I also occasionally get hiccups every 5 secs when I play this clip in Cinema Mode.

Does this sound like normal performance with a single GTX 580 Classified? Or should I get my gpu card looked at?

btw, I’m on mac os 10.8.2, Cuda Driver 5.0.37, and GPU Driver 1.3.4.0 (304.00.05f02). Resolve timline/playback/conform settings to match frame rate and resolution of the 1080 23.976p ProRes LT media, and in 10 bit video depth setting.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

since no one else has responded, i’ll throw in my suggestions. 10.8.3 and 10.8.4 may some GPU driver updates that might help. also, lowering playback quality to 8 bit (but leaving rendering at 10 bit) may help.

Thanks for the info Eric. Upgrading my OS is definitely an option, but I had the impression that a single gtx 580 classified has enough horsepower to properly playback single node Prores LT. Maybe a false impression.

A 2009/2010 Mac Pro with a GTX570 typically has no problems playing a HD ProRes stream. Your issues might be non standard Mac hardware related.

yes, the hackintosh could be the culprit. As Eric pointed out, updating may be the solution.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Did you fix the problem by updating the OS?
I read your post and I am a little worried now, since I will use Resolve as well on a HacMac, with similar specs and a NVidia 680 2GB card.
Anybody know, if it’s gonna be fine with that card?
