I have “upgraded” to todays Beta2 release of Resolve 12, and can testify that performance has already improved since the last beta. With Beta1 there was performance issues with heavy grades and transitions, which I do not see as much now. For example a clip with 2 nodes of color correction (including a single Power Window) appears to play back in real time (1920 x 1080). Of course throwing in additional effects slow down the performance – but Resolve does offer a single button to disable all grading.

Strangely it seems like using transitions on audio tracks slows the system down a lot!

Another issue, where the audio meters would keep expanding to 8 channels, even though I minimised them, seems to be fixed. But there are still some issues with the delivery page, where settings can kind of get stuck – requiring to restart the Project. Also no audio only export.

This was tested on the new MBP with 16GB RAM.

Keep it coming Blackmagic : )

[Morten Ranmar] “Strangely it seems like using transitions on audio tracks slows the system down a lot!”

Several issues affect performance in the Edit page. Single versus dual-display layouts. Open mixer panels and audio meters. 8-bit versus 10-bit monitoring. Having an external i/o device enabled. Of all of these, an open mixer panel seems to be the biggest drag.

If you want the best performance in the Edit page, then – switch to 8-bit monitoring. Single-screen layout. Close mixer panel and audio meters. Disable external video output.

Great color corrector, but as an editor there is a long way to go. Focus on color, BMD!

What do you find missing or not working? Just curious. In the testing I’ve done it seems pretty decent at least as an online editor, other than some beta software issues.

Morten, can’t you do this in X by just clicking the top Effects button?
