In the process of completing a project that’s all phantom footage, I was excited to discover that Davinci Resolve 10 has more support for Phantom cine raw files but sad to discover that my transcodes in from Resolve would invariably crash with an error. Our files were 2.5K

After some experimentation I discovered that the problem is that the phantom cine files are “Packed” rather than “Unpacked”. The good news is that the Phantom Cine software which can be downloaded from Vision Research (Windows only :o) can batch convert from packed to unpacked just by selecting .cine as the destination format and unchecking packed. If you are in contact with the shoot it’s obviously smart to make sure that the phantom operator knows this and makes unpacked files from the get go. Next time… next time.

Bringing these new file back into Resolve, I no longer have the rendering errors and the performance is greatly improved.

    Cheers,
