Resizing a Project
Hey guys.
I created a project at 720×480 and NOW they tell me they want an HD version of it. Most of it is either text or images that were pretty large to start with, so I would think resizing it is no biggie.
What’s the best way to resize / upsize it to the new specs?
(I tried grabbing it all, making a new comp, then scaling the comp, but I lost resolution on the text. Isn’t the text all vector?)

Best way is to use the Scale Composition script that comes with AE

This happens when you have a vector shape in precomp and try to resize it.Best thing is just Enable the “Collapse Transformation” switch of your comp and you will get what you want. Its for vector layers specially.

Here is how I resized the project:
1. Precompose everything into a new comp
2. Mark that comp with Collapse Transformations
3. Use Comp Settings to resize the comp
4. Scale it up. -

Honestly, I’d recommend against designing for SD only altogether. Work in 4:3 safe 16:9, and you will be ready when the client (inevitably) asks for an HD version.

I guess the advice on running that resize script would probably be the best advice in most cases. In my case, it was passing up some screwy masking issues from the sub-compositions, but I worked around it.
(I posted my process and also encourage following the tip for the resize script in case others have the same issue and need help.)
