Resize layers imported from Photoshop to AE
Whenever I import a many layered photoshop document into After Effects as a composition, every layer is the size of the composition rather than the size of the object in the layer. When animating these layers it makes it especially difficult to distinguish what is what. Especially when there are over 30+ layers involved.
Is there a way that I can resize the layer’s bounding box so that is the size of the object within the layer.
I’ve thought about importing each object separately but that would be a huge mess.Help!

I agree, all layers the same size is a pain, but there’s a quick fix. When you Import>File or Drag and Drop, you’re given the choice of Footage or Composition. When you choose Composition, from the “Footage Dimensions” DropDown, choose “Layer Size” instead of the default “Document Size”.

Is that a Mac reference? On my PC version of AE7 the options for comp import are: ‘compostion’ or ‘composition – cropped layers’. I’m assuming it serves the same puropse?
Just odd that it’s worded differently.
It’s bizarre though, because you’d expect ‘cropped layers’ to crop the layers if they go outside the document’s bounds, but it’s the other way round. In what situation would you want the layers to be cut off and the layer bounds to all be the same anyway…Seems an odd option to me.
Does it have a use?

I wonder then: is it possible to get the layers at the same position in AfterEffects as they were in the Photoshop file? Now when I drag the psd to the comp they all end up in the middle of the scene.
