Replacing Clip To Retain Length
I’ve tried to search for a solution, but maybe the terminology is lost on me so I’ll explain what I’m trying to do and hope someone has a better solution:
I have a pretty consistent video format that I want to be able to basically plug and go. My individual clips’ times will vary every week though. So, I made a template Premiere project, added my transitions and used bars and tone for a footage substitute. When I opened my new project and dropped my template in, I started editing my actual footage. I set in and out points for my clips in the source monitor. However, when I go to replace clip, it only replaces to the end of the bars and tone (so either it cuts my clip short, or it shows parts of the clip I wanted out). It would be great if it moved the other media on the timeline to accommodate my new clip’s length. Does that make sense?
The only solution I can come up with is to nest my clips so that I can at least see where my clip ends (you would have to go into the actual nested sequence to change the length from the in and out points). It’s slightly cumbersome and probably minimally helpful if I’m nesting everything. Any solutions to speed this up? Thanks in advance!!!

I select the clip to be replaced and ripple delete (shift + delete) then ripple insert the new clip (command drag).
