Replacing a moving image within a video
I tried to search this topic on the thread and google but received no results. I will explain my question with an example since I do not know how to articulate it in video terms.
Lets say I have a video of 3 people walking down a street. I would like to edit out one of the people and replace it with another person. Is this possible?
I understand I would have to have filmed the replacement at the same angle etc. I’m just wondering if this can be done in Sony Vegas, and if not, what software?

Theoretically, yes it is possible. Practically, it will not be easy to get convincing results, but depending on the purpose, it might be worth to try.
The replacement person is very easy since you can film this second person in front of a green screen, which allows you to isolate this person from the background.
However, to get rid of the original person is a different story. I haven’t seen the footage, but I would expect that frame by frame masking (or cloning) is not a serious option and you would need the Boris RED plugin to do this in Vegas. But there is another Boris plugin, BCC Motion Key, that allows you to remove moving objects from a static background.
https://www.borisfx.com/units/motion_key.phpBut since you want to remove only one person out of three, it will really depend on the footage whether you will manage. Motion key is part of the Vegas plugin Boris RED. If you don’t have this Boris RED plug-in, you can purchase Motion Key seperately, but then you will also need the Boris FX plugin in order to get it to work in Vegas. If you also have Adobes After Effects, you can use Motion Key without the need for Boris FX.
But like I said, the results will really depend on your footage.

I’ll check out the Boris plugins.
I clicked the link and read about continuum Motion Key, and it looks great.I have been doing some work with chroma keying, but find it difficult to achieve a 3d result where it looks like the subject is within the frame instead of standing in front of it.
Any tips on achieving this?Harvey

When you are combining images (persons) from different sources, lighting is very very important. Not only the direction but also the amount: a subjec further away looks more grey (less colors) and less sharp. Also, perspective is very important: the horizon is always at the eyeline of the viewer. This will help you to set the size of the person in relation to the distance from the camera.
I’m sure other people can add a lot more tips on this.
