  Replace with AE comp — Sometimes precomp, sometimes footage…

  I’m using the replace with After Effects composition function inside of Premiere Pro CC 2014. In After Effects I always get the linked comp or course, but sometimes the footage itself is then precomped and sometimes it comes in as just a piece of footage.

  My question is what determines whether it comes in as a precomp of footage?
