Repairing corrupt hard drive, FCP capture scratch will be lost…Help!
Hello,
So my external hard drive has become corrupt. I have been backing up all my raw footage from P2 cards that goes with the Panasonic HVXC 200 HD on another hard drive but not the capture scratch from Final Cut Pro. Because I couldn’t afford a larger back up hard drive, I cannot transfer the capture scratch of the raw footage. I do not want to loose all the work I’ve been doing in FCP. When I have repaired the hard drive and added back all the raw footage and the fcp project onto the hard drive, will my work in the FCP project file be useless if I don’t have the original capture scratch but was able to recapture the original footage off the back up?

It won’t be useless. If you’ve kept your working project file on a drive other than your media drive it will be intact and have all your editing work up to date. After your corrupted media drive is fixed just add back your video and other files into a new capture scratch folder. When you open your project file follow FCP’s prompts to reconnect all your video clips, etc. and you’ll be back in business.

Because you still have the project file…all is good! And you have the original P2 files…ALL IS GOOD!
Just highlight all the clips in the project, and hit BATCH CAPTURE. Well, you might have to load LOG AND TRANSFER and point to one of the P2 card backups, just to show FCP where they are, but then close that, and hit BATCH CAPTURE and FCP will reimport the footage, and your cut will be intact.
This happened to me, and it only took a few hours to reimport the missing footage.
